Freelander SD4 in the test: Land Rover with strong diesel


Land Rover has a new diesel engine powered the Freelander. The new SD4 to 40 PS has risen compared to the old Freelander TD4. Despite now 190 HP, consumption has fallen significantly.
The selection of the Freelander range was so far limited to a petrol and one diesel engine. Now is to have the typeface geliftete version in three different power levels, because is on intake and motor control revised 2, 2-liter diesel engine 150 HP and 190 PS Variant (six levels automatic series) available, where the 40 extra HP proud 3,500 euro charges. The exceptional for a compact SUV terrain characteristics improve again a little more elastic working motor, steep climbs are defeated without trouble. The model refinement is noticeable but above all on the road. Here it runs Land Rover Freelander with pleasantly low noise level, because also the sound insulation is better.
The automatic transmission in the Land Rover Freelander strives to avoid high speeds, and quietly changes the course. The engine develops its force after turbo typical breather largely linear without the usual diesel kick. The 420 nm push confidently ahead. In the testing, the common-rail injection presses 9.6 L / 100 km into the combustion chamber. The competition is however more economical, a Mercedes GLK 220 CDI 170 HP diesel consumed 9.4 L / 100 km.
